From 2007 Inquirer.net interview:
Well, as an economist, it has something to do with the economy, and the idea
of so many people really being in a perpetual state of want. The idea that,
you know, the stereotype is a family in Metro Manila or any other urban
area, sharing one bowl of noodles as the daily sustenance and any wonder
what happens to that family down the line? When there is not sufficient
nutrition? The other is the numbers of yung OFWs that the country is deploying.
Officially it’s about nine million. But we understand it’s even more than
that. Then you wonder of course. They make such a contribution right now but
10-15 years from now specially for those that don’t have both parents…I
wonder what the country will be paying in terms of societal problems 10, 15
years from now.And of course, in the political sphere, we really are in an effective state
of limbo, primarily because there’s so may questions and issues that have
been left hanging. There’s never been any resolution, and there seems to be
no desire on the part of those who are in-charge of the administration of
this country and the government to even put a closure to any of these and
instead has kept on adding more and more issues. So, instead of ‘yung…if you want to look at the net effect…’yung Magdalo
uprising, from 300 people, the next was ‘yung February 24 or so in 2006 were
we had three major units of the AFP and PNP [Philippine National Police]
mainly in the South, the Scout Rangers and the Marines being called into
questions of rising up in revolt together with their generals. So problem has not been diminished. It seems to be increasing, and that will
tend to make anybody looking at it pessimistic. Because the only branches of
government that are still effective in maintaining their democratic roles,
the Senate and the Supreme Court, are also in a constant state of attack by
the other sectors of this government.

With what the “disclaimer” has stated (read the disclaimer on the right side of the web page), I doubt Sen. Noynoy reads (is able to) these blogs! But the managers and administrators of this blog site should ensure what we say reaches Noynoy, one way or the other. I’ve read very good perspectives from some bloggers, which may help the senator plan out ahead. Regardless, let’s keep the inputs coming in. All the good stuff will surely align with what the others are espousing towards good governance in this country.
only the Noynoy- Mar tandem can stop the country’s downhill fall to doom and anarchy
villar and other candidates will make the country’s downfall faster and people poorer
Is sen ninoy even reading the blog comments?
Hi sen ninoy,
If you want to become president in 2010 you may want to do the following:
1. Do not underestimate the catholic vote. Change your stand on the population issue and support the catholic bishop’s stand. If you plan to rule a catholic nation, better take the stand of the bishops and of the stand of the late pres cory. Most people criticize you for not being your own man, but this is one issue that you should not be your own man and take the stand of your mother who was a devout catholic. Religious beliefs aside, just try to review the problems of singapore, canada, japan, and china who all had successful population control programs. Now they are trying to reverse the damage done by their population control programs while we are trying to go down their path and commit the same mistake. In management strategies, there is such a term called benchmarking. We should benchmark on the experience of these countries and not commit the same mistakes they made on their population policy.
2. Be your own man.
3. Declare a 3 year total war vs the MILF and abu sayaf in Mindanao. Afterwards, declare a two year peace negotiation period and negotiate from a strong position.
The rest of your term you can use for reconstruction. if the war is won in 2 years then the peace negotiation can start in earnest and the reconstruction can proceed asap.
Also get rid of the illegal vfa agreement, and chase out the US troops that are now operating those illegal ad hoc military basis. For all we know, the current mindanao insurgency may be a convenient excuse for them to operate virtual military bases to maintain their presence in our region. We should learn the lessons from the Ramos-MNLF negotiations which wasted billions of our taxes and created monsters like ampatuans and their kind.
4. Refresh the supreme court and eliminate justices appointed by GMA and those justices known to be freemasons. This is the only sure way we can prosecute the GMA and her cohorts who ransacked the Philippines for the last decade.
5. Hopefully you can eliminate pork barrel which really is the only reason why the trapos run for congress. WE should have a congress that makes laws and not a congress that only act as contract middlemen whose main congressional agenda is to make sure that they get their 10 plus percent on any given project.
6. Make it easy for successful OFW’s to come home and set-up business. As it stands right now, OFW’s are even afraid to even come home since they see that the Philippines has already become a coutnry ran by drug dealers, youth gangs, syndicate, and assasins.
7. Increase the size of our professional police force. You can even double it by the time you finish your term, the important thing is that we filipinos must feel secure in our own country so that we can start using our creative minds and start doing business in our country that would create jobs.
If you will become president next year, you have a great role to play either to the ruin
of our country or to the benefit of all FIlipinos. Please do not waste this chance.
So what about the “3 most pressing issues in the country?” This blog isn’t clear about them. It should all be clearly stated under no uncertain terms what the 3 issues are, for voters to make a clear decision who among the candidates make the most sense to deal with them. In management we have a saying, “A problem well defined, is a problem half solved.”
From my own perspective here are the 3 major opportunities for change in order for our country to move forward and align with successful nations, these are: 1st, LEADERSHIP; 2nd, JUSTICE; and 3rd, ECONOMY.
LEADERSHIP is first and foremost. As author John Maxwell wrote, “Everything rises and falls on leadership.” Leadership is about modeling the right character founded on the right values. If our president himself/herself is tainted with corruption, sabi nga nila, “saan tayo pupulutin?” Example: an embarassingly expensive New York resto bill amidst a nation suffering economically is a reflection of insensitivity of the leader. And leadership is not a single person’s responsibility either. We’ve got to have the right leaders in every single government branch (executive, legislative, & judiciary). Today, leadership is wanting in those government sectors.
JUSTICE is the second most important issue. Knowing that society is an intermix of many classes of people, it is important that regardless of class, justice ensures equality in the law. Plain and simple to me, justice is equilibium. Like in arithmetic, the left value should equal the right value. If equilibrium is broken, then we all have to solve for “X” and many more that follows (eg shooting in the streets because of traffic, massacre by government officials, extrajudicial killings, etc). Remember the “balance of nature” that today is no longer balanced! Ondoy? Katrina? Haiti? Today, judges, lawyers, the police & military, etc. are tainted with distrust, fraud, violence, dishonorable conduct, and many more.
Lastly is the issue on the ECONOMY. So far, “TRAPOS” have only used numericals (pure numbers) to define & manage the economy in the grass roots, managing numbers only! And we all know that economy is more than just numbers. Plain and simple, economy means abundance, plentiful, richness, “mucho denero,” affluence, etc. Otherwise, no work, no savings, no food/clothing/shelter, no education, no savings/investments, no car, no travel, no eating in a New York expensive resto, no vacation in Batangas, etc. Proof? Our middle class could not even elect a decent president into Malacanang! Sabi nga ng iba, “anong middle class, meron ba?” Today, without remittances from OFWs, our country will be worst that it already is. Reality on the ground: the “fewer” rich is getting richer, and the rest is getting poorer!
Noynoy! Maliwanag sa akin you cannot solve any of the above problems! Not in six years!!! What I’m betting on is that you will show the right kind of leadership we all could model after, and show managerial skills in order to take steps to put in place long-term solutions to address these 3 major issues in our country today!
May God bless you and the Philippines!
I agree that the Senate and the Juduciary are being attacked by the “evil people” and thus , there are renewed efforts to decreased its independence and integrity. It will be the job of the Senators and the Justices/Lawyers/Judges to protect in with the help of the Filipino citizenry.
