Merry Yellow Christmas, |
They thought they could bring a good man down. * * *
Just a few days ago, one of the Senate staff lost her phone, and Noynoy immediately offered his own phone, from his pocket, on the spot.

Noynoy puts others above himself. He runs because it is high time this democracy worked for the people.

With the Supreme Court ruling that COMELEC open its doors for extended voter registration, Sen Noynoy Aquino urged Filipinos, especially first-time voters, to take advantage and exercise their rights. A December Pulse Asia poll with 1,800 respondents places Sen Noynoy Aquino at a wide lead ahead of the other presidentiables, with a nod of 45 per cent if elections were held today. Sen Manny Villar lags behind at 23 percent. »Philippine Daily Inquirer
The latest Social Weather Stations survey commissioned by Business World showed that 46 per cent of voters would pick Sen Noynoy Aquino as president if elections were held today. Aquino said that the unwavering results show that his campaign is not personality-based, and his base of support had not waned despite it being months after his mother passed, which critics say is the only reason for his high poll numbers. Sen Mar Roxas also led the pack among vice presidentiables. The survey was conducted face-to-face with 2,100 respondents with a single-choice question. »Business World
The latest results from legitimate polling outfits Pulse Asia and SWS "validate the people's support for an honest government campaign," said Aquino's spokesperson Atty Edwin Lacierda. "It comes at a time when our many opponents are desperately trying to bring us down through lies and black propaganda," he said. Lacierda pointed out that Aquino's current lead is the highest ever ratings for a presidential candidate, proving that "dirty tricks" are not working. »Philippine Daily Inquirer
SAN FERNANDO -- A province-wide survey shows that Kabalens have thrown their support behind Sen Noynoy Aquino for the presidency. Forty-nine percent of Kapampangans favor Aquino over second-placer Sen Manny Villar, who garnered only 19 per cent. Aquino's father Ninoy is from Concepcion, Tarlac, formerly part of Pampanga. »Philippine Star
NEW YORK -- A Filipino community in the US led by philantrophist Loida Nicolas Lewis are supporting the Noy-Mar tandem. Lewis said during the launch of US Pinoys for Noy and Mar that the Philippines needs an incorruptible leader like Noynoy Aquino. "Skills, executive ability can be learned, but character, hindi. Right now, what we need is somebody who has character, somebody who is strong and hindi siya masisilaw sa pera," Lewis said. US Pinoys for Noy and Mar is a group whose members stretch from California to New York. »Asian Journal
LAOAG CITY -- Stratospheric support behind the son of their former rival Ninoy Aquino has prompted family of ousted dictator Ferdinand Marcos to seek government posts in the 2010 elections. Marcos nephew Michael Keon revealed that Imelda Marcos fears that a Noynoy Aquino presidency would intensify government efforts to reveal the Marcos' hidden wealth, and finally pin the assassination of democracy hero Ninoy on the Marcoses. »Business Mirror
Six Arroyo cabinet members have been slapped with charges in the Office of the Ombudsman for their role in the declaration of Martial Law in Maguindanao. "When the President commits a supreme constitutional blunder, even the stooges must be made to pay," said Rep. Risa Hontiveros, who is running as a senator under the Liberal Party. Charged were Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita, Interior Secretary Sec. Ronaldo Puno, Defense Secretary Norberto Gonzales, Justice Secretary Agnes Devenadera, Armed Forces Chief of Staff Gen. Victor Ibrado, and National Police Director General Jesus Verzosa. »GMA News »ABS-CBN News
Senators in the Liberal Party slate said that good governance is a critical element of a country's development. Atty Alex Lacson and Reps TG Guingona and Neric Acosta said that among others, they will push for greater accountability and budget reforms. Apparently alluding to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Bishop Soc Villegas said during the anniversary of EDSA Shrine that he is ashamed that the "beneficiaries" of Edsa Dos vilified sacred ground by "waltzing" with evil. Bishop Soc, in an emotional speech (excerpts in this article), invoked the memory of Cardinal Sin and Cory Aquino and said that EDSA is still an unfinished mission. »Philippine Daily Inquirer
In case you missed this brilliant internet sensation: Playing the devil's advocate, Manuel Buencamino of the Business Mirror asks his daughter the same things Gibbons have been relentlessly spamming peaceful and cordial internet forums with: Why not vote for Gibo? He's smart, a man of action! The ensuing exchange is priceless. Let's just say that the best part of being a parent is watching your children grow into wise, intelligent and discerning adults. »read more
Someone positioning for the highest post in the land packaging himself as God's gift because of his talent and skills reminds The Philippine Star's William Esposo of a horrible decades-long nightmare: Ferdinand Marcos. Esposo goes point by point on why the pitch of Arroyo's anointed one is almost a reincarnation of the former dictator's all those years ago, and how it merely extends Arroyo's own programs. On top of it all, there are questions that Gilbert Teodoro must answer if he is to punch his pitch: Maguindanao, Ondoy and his pandering to "terrorism." If you know what's good for you, says Esposo, then Teodoro must not be allowed to succeed Arroyo. »read more
Filomeno Sta Ana III writes in Business World that of all the main candidates, Noynoy is the only one who has identified the country's main challenge by repudiating the bad governance that has harmed Philippine economic and political life. Thus, his candidacy is pro-poor in its truest sense: not by touting pro-poor by being allegedly from the poor, but by being pro-poor for fighting for true reform. Sta Ana says Noynoy is the only one who has read and kept in touch with the sentiments of the people: the need to restore trust in government. »read more
It's hunting season, and there's only one target: Noynoy Aquino. There's only one reason they're trying to bring a good man down: he is the number one preference among Filipino voters, and those doling out the paychecks want that spot with a vicious hunger. As the season progresses, Jose Montelibano writes in the Inquirer, paid hacks are getting darker and more creative as they attempt (miserably) to shoot down the leader of the pack. And as they sneak around the darkness and continue to attempt (miserably) to defend the indefensible, Montelibano exposes their dirty deeds to light. »read more
Ruben Almendras writes an economic prognosis for 2010 in the Philippine Star and posits that a Noynoy Aquino win will have the most impact on domestic and foreign investment, as it is perceived as the most reform-oriented, inspiring confiedence in investors. A Villar win would only be second best because of his "business mind," and a Teodoro victory will be a defeat for the economy as the standard-bearer is too associated with the current regime and would not earn the trust of businesses and the people. 2010 is looking prosperous. »read more
Noynoy Aquino said that before going through the motions of the How, we must ask: Why? Regarding the budget, and constitutional change, Noynoy asked the same and so should we. Writing in the Inquirer, Manuel Alcuaz says that asking the Why defines objectives. The same goes for electing our officials: before asking the How, we must ask Why these people are running for office in the first place. Why do they stand for one thing or another? Alcuaz posits that once the proper objectives have been defined, then we can move on to what must be done, and how to get things done. »read more
